Replace an outdated fuse board or install a new consumer unit with our qualified team. We carry out the work safely and efficiently, with testing and certification included.

Your fuse box, or consumer unit, sits at the centre of your home’s electrical system. Keeping it in good working order matters. If yours needs replacing or upgrading, EMAY Electrical can carry out the installation safely and efficiently.
A fixed quote is agreed before we start. We test the completed installation, supply the certificate and take care of the building control notification, so you know the cost and what paperwork to expect.
An older board may lack the RCD protection found in modern installations, particularly if it still uses rewireable fuses. Upgrading can improve protection against electric shock and reduce certain fire risks. We’ll assess the existing installation to establish what is needed.

An EICR can identify whether the board needs upgrading. Reasons to have it checked include ceramic fuses, no RCD test button, frequent trips or a lack of room for an extra circuit such as an EV charger. Scorching or a burning smell needs prompt attention.

Where appropriate, we install surge protection and RCBOs in the new board. Surge protection helps limit damage from voltage spikes, while individual RCBOs help keep a fault on one circuit from interrupting the others.

Adding an EV charger, kitchen circuit, extension or garden room can mean needing more capacity at the consumer unit. We’ll check that your board can support your plans, taking both present and future needs into account.

Considering a fuse box upgrade? It helps to know how the work affects your day, which documents you receive and whether repeated tripping points to a different problem. We answer those questions below.
Allow roughly a day for a typical replacement, including the electrical tests. Some of that time will require the supply to be switched off. We’ll explain the arrangements before beginning.
Yes. We supply an Electrical Installation Certificate for the replacement and notify building control, as changing a domestic consumer unit is notifiable work.
The protective device may be responding to a fault elsewhere, rather than a problem with the board itself. Damaged wiring, moisture or a defective appliance can cause tripping. We’ll investigate before advising whether replacement is appropriate.
Our priority is safe electrical work. You’ll be dealing with fully insured electricians with City & Guilds qualifications and NAPIT registration. We are also listed on the Register of Competent Persons (Electrical). To hear how customers rate the work and service, take a look at our 5 star reviews.
